IVCO 2023 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A NEW GENERATION OF VOLUNTEER AS CHANGEMAKERS
22nd – 26th October 2023
One billion people globally are active volunteers, and around 1 in 3 young people report that they are volunteering – nearly 600 million youth worldwide as reported by UNV.
This year’s conference, “A New Generation of Volunteers as Changemakers” focuses on youth, highlighting how we create or recreate opportunities to harness the full force of young people as agents of change, at a local, national, and global level.
“Young people are the driving force behind social change, and volunteering is one of the most powerful ways they can make a difference. By getting involved in their communities, they are building the skills and experience they need to become leaders and changemakers.” – Malala Yousafzai, youth activist
Responding to the unprecedented global crisis such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic has shifted organisations’ years-old cultures and practices to fit the existing environment. However, there is a need to talk about the other diverging global crisis during this age of the Anthropocene – which includes climate resilience, food security, active conflicts, economic crisis, youth employment crisis and many others.
IVCO 2023 will unpack the state of the new generation of volunteers and how volunteer involving organisations work towards creating an enabling environment for the new generation to take lead.
This year’s conference will provide delegates with an opportunity to:
- Understand the importance of the new generation of volunteers and their role in volunteering in development.
- Learn how we design and implement programmes to excite and engage the new generation of volunteers whilst encouraging their active participation.
- Discover new and innovative ways to activate the leadership within young people to prepare them for and address upcoming development challenges.
IVCO 2023 aims to invigorate our commitment of keeping the new generation of volunteers at the heart of our work. The conference will encourage open conversations, highlight good practices and create opportunities for delegates to network, exchange ideas and present their work and research to the international volunteering in development community.
